Personalized neon sign gifts: ideas and how to order

A name or a date in light is a gift people keep on the wall for years. It works for a newborn, a couple, a graduate or a friend opening a shop. Because every sign is made to order, a little planning goes a long way. This guide gives gift ideas by occasion, then walks through how to order one so it arrives on time and says exactly the right thing.

A name

A single name in script is the classic personalized sign: for a nursery, a kid’s or teen’s room, a dorm, or a studio named after its owner. One name of 6 to 8 letters fits a 20 to 24 in name sign. Choose their favorite color, or a soft warm white that suits any room.

Couples and weddings

• The couple’s first names, with an ampersand or a small heart.
• Their new last name, for the wall of their first home.
• Their wedding date under the names, as a second line.
• A short phrase that means something to them.

Warm white and white read best in wedding photos, and script fonts are the usual choice. The custom wedding neon sign is set up for names. How to order a neon sign gift

1. Get the words exactly right. Check the spelling of names, the date format, and whether they write “and” or “&”. If it is a surprise, find a card or a social profile that shows how they spell it.
2. Choose a width. Allow about 2 in of width for every character, spaces included, on the longest line. Over a bed or a sofa, about two thirds of the furniture’s width looks balanced. Our size guide has a table.
3. Choose a color. One of 18 tube colors, a color per line, or color changing (RGB) for someone who likes to switch moods.
4. Choose how it will be shown. Wall standoffs, ceiling cables, no-drill adhesive mounts for renters, or a clear free-standing base for a desk or shelf. The mounting kit for the option you choose is included.
5. Choose the power. Every sign comes with a plug-in adapter. Add the 8 x AA battery box at no charge for a table at an event or a spot without an outlet; each set of batteries runs the sign for about 4 to 5 hours.
6. Approve the free proof. You will see the sign before it is made, with unlimited free revisions. Production starts when you approve.

The clock starts when you approve the proof, not when you order, so reply to the proof quickly. For a birthday, wedding or holiday, ordering 5 to 6 weeks ahead leaves room for a couple of rounds of changes at standard speed. If time is short, add rush production; if a date cannot be met, we say so before production starts.

What arrives in the box

Every LED sign comes ready to hang: the sign on its backboard, the plug-in adapter, a dimmer (in-line or remote), and the mounting kit for the installation you chose. The dimmer matters more than people expect in a gift: it lets the sign glow softly in a bedroom at night or brightly at a party. The LED tube has a rated life of 50,000 hours, and the sign has a 2-year warranty with free repair.

A note for children’s rooms

For a child’s room, mount the sign high and out of reach, on wall standoffs or no-drill mounts, and keep the adapter and cable away from the crib or bed. Our kids’ room project shows a name sign above a bed. With the dimmer turned down, it doubles as a night light.
