Neon signs for bars, restaurants and home bars

A neon sign behind the bar gives the room its glow and shows people where the drinks are. These designs work in a cocktail bar, a restaurant, a taproom or a basement bar at home.

The ready-made bar designs: Cocktails in pink script with an ice-blue martini glass, Cheers in golden yellow script, Happy Hour in orange script, Home Bar in ice-blue rounded letters and Cold Beer in golden yellow with a white beer mug. Each comes in widths from 20 to 60 in, single color or color changing (RGB), indoor or outdoor.

For a restaurant or a bar with its own name, put the logo in neon with the custom logo sign, or type the name in the designer. A smaller sign can stand on the back bar or a shelf: the tabletop sign comes on a clear 8 mm base, and the acrylic stand turns a sign with a straight bottom edge into a standing one. For real glass in a black steel box, see the glass neon box sign.

Settle a few things before you order. A patio or an outdoor bar needs the outdoor build, IP67 rated, mounted under a roof with the adapter kept dry. Near sinks, taps and ice wells, keep the adapter away from splashes. If a fire inspector asks for a flame-retardant board, we make the backboard in polycarbonate instead of acrylic. The bar and restaurant guide covers placement and size.

Planning a whole room? The bar and restaurant project and the home bar project list what to order. For several signs or locations, use the trade form.

  • Measure the wall behind the bar; 30 to 48 in is a good place to start for a back bar.
  • Choose the outdoor build for a patio, and keep the adapter dry under cover.
  • Keep the adapter away from sinks, taps and ice wells.
  • A standing sign needs a straight bottom edge to sit in the stand.
  • Ask for a polycarbonate board if your inspector requires flame-retardant materials.

Questions

Can I put a neon sign on my patio or outdoor bar?

Yes, with the outdoor build: IP67 rated tube and sealed parts, with a test report. Mount it under a roof or awning and keep the adapter and plug dry, indoors or in a covered weatherproof outlet box. The indoor vs outdoor guide explains the difference.

What size bar sign should I get?

Measure the wall or the space above the back bar. A sign that people read from across the room usually wants 30 to 48 in; a sign on a shelf or a bar cart can be 20 to 24 in. Your proof shows the exact size before anything is made.

Can a bar sign stand on a shelf instead of hanging?

Yes. Order the tabletop sign, which comes on a clear 8 mm base, or add an acrylic stand to a sign with a straight bottom edge.

Can you make a sign with my bar or restaurant name?

Yes. Type the name in the designer, or send your logo for a custom logo sign. Either way you get a free proof before anything is made.

What do I tell a fire inspector about the sign?

The certified parts are the power supply, which is cULus Listed (E466625), and the LED light source. If the venue or inspector needs a flame-retardant board, we make the backboard in polycarbonate instead of acrylic; tell us before you order.
