This is glass neon the way it looks behind an old-school bar: real neon lettering mounted inside an open-front steel box painted black. The box does two jobs. It protects the glass from bumps, and it hides the transformer, so all you see is the glowing word framed in black. The sign can stand on a back bar or a shelf, or hang on a wall.

The details are the ones that make glass neon look finished. Where the tube jumps from one letter to the next, the glass is painted black so only the letters glow. The electrodes sit in black boots, and black supports and spring clips hold the tube in the box.

The word, the size and the colors are made to order. Glass neon is bent by hand from tube filled with neon or argon gas and runs on a high-voltage transformer, so very fine detail has limits. Bold, short words such as BAR, OPEN or a name suit it best.

Because each box is built to order, it is priced by quote.

To get one:

  • press Ask for a quote on this page
  • tell us the word, the colors and about how wide you want it
  • say whether it will stand on a bar or hang on a wall

We reply by email with a price and a free mockup, and nothing is made until you approve it.

For glass neon without the box, see our custom glass neon sign, made 20 to 60 in wide. For a lighter sign on 12 V that is easier to move, our LED neon signs are the other option.

How to choose

Pick a short word. One bold word or a short name in block letters fills the box well and reads across a room; long phrases and thin script are harder in glass.

Think about color next: a single color gives the classic look, and we can show other combinations on the mockup. Then decide where it goes. On a back bar or a shelf it stands on its own; on a wall it hangs. Tell us the space you have, and we size the box to it on the mockup.

Questions

Is this real glass neon?

Yes. The lettering is hand-bent glass tube filled with neon or argon gas, lit by a high-voltage transformer.

Why is it in a box?

The open-front steel box protects the glass from bumps and hides the transformer, so you only see the glowing word framed in black.

How much does it cost?

Each box is made to order, so it is priced by quote. Press Ask for a quote and tell us the word, colors and width; we reply with a price and a free mockup.

Can it stand on a bar?

Yes. It can stand on a back bar or a shelf, or hang on a wall.

Can glass neon be repaired?

Yes. The tube rarely fails; when a repair is needed it is almost always the transformer or an electrode, and both are repairable.
