Kids' room and nursery

A child's name in neon, or a rainbow or a moon, makes a room their own and doubles as a night light. Install it high and out of reach, with the cable kept away from the crib or bed.

What you need

Size
A name of 6 to 8 letters fits a sign 20 to 24 in wide. Over a bed or a crib, keep the sign narrower than the bed, about two-thirds of its width.
Color
Light pink, light blue and warm white are soft at night, and the rainbow adds color to a playroom. Turn the dimmer down at bedtime.
Backboard
Clear acrylic cut to the shape of the name keeps the look light on a painted wall.
Mounting
Mount the sign high on the wall and out of a child's reach, with no-drill adhesive mounts or standoffs. Keep the adapter and cable away from the crib or bed, and run the cable where small hands cannot pull it.
Power
The sign runs on 12 V DC from a plug-in adapter, and the tube gives off little heat. A remote dimmer lets you turn it down from the door without reaching over the bed.
When to order
Allow 3 to 4 weeks after you approve the free proof: 15 to 20 days of production and 3 to 5 days in transit. For a birthday or a due date, add rush production if time is short.

How it comes together

  2. Choose a soft color and a script font in the designer.
  3. Pick the width: 20 to 24 in suits most names.
  4. Approve the free proof and check the spelling.
  5. Mount the sign high on the wall, out of reach.
  6. Run the cable and adapter away from the crib or bed.
  7. Set the dimmer low for a night light.

Tip: Use an outlet a child cannot reach, and run the cable along the wall rather than across the floor or near the bed.
