Bedroom and living room
Over a bed or a sofa, a neon sign is wall art that doubles as an evening light. Choose a word, a shape or your own phrase, size it to the furniture below and dim it at night.
What you need
- Size
- Use the wall art rule: about two-thirds of the width of the bed or sofa, with the bottom edge 6 to 10 in above the headboard or sofa back. Over a 60 in queen bed that is about 36 to 42 in.
- Color
- Warm white is calm and goes with any room; pink, purple and red add a mood. With the dimmer turned down, any color becomes a soft glow.
- Backboard
- Clear acrylic cut to shape lets the wall color show through; a clear rectangle looks tidy over a long sofa.
- Mounting
- In a rented home, no-drill adhesive mounts hold the sign on a smooth, clean, dry wall; otherwise, standoffs float it about 1 in off the wall.
- Power
- Plan the outlet first, because a cable hanging down the middle of the wall shows. A remote dimmer lets you turn the sign down or off from the bed or the sofa.
- When to order
- Production takes 15 to 20 days after you approve the free proof, then 3 to 5 days in transit. Buying it as a gift for a date? Order early or add rush production.

Tip: Before you fix anything, tape a sheet of paper the size of the sign to the wall and look at it from across the room.
