This is our custom text sign with the outdoor build already selected, for places that see weather: a covered patio, a porch, a pool house, a food truck, a storefront or an outdoor bar. Type up to three lines in the designer on this page, choose a font, colors and a width from 20 to 120 inches, and see the layout before you order.
The outdoor build uses an IP67-rated tube and sealed connections, and we have a test report for it. In the IP code, the 6 means dust-tight and the 7 means protected against temporary immersion in water, which covers rain and splashes. It is not meant for long soaking or pressure washing.
The plug-in adapter is the one part that must stay dry: keep it indoors or in a covered weatherproof outlet box. If the outlet is far from where the sign will hang, ask us before ordering. For the longest life, mount the sign under a roof or awning, out of direct, all-day rain and sun.
The letters are flexible silicone LED neon tube set into a groove routed in clear acrylic about 1/4 in (6 mm) thick, on 12 V DC. Warm white suits a patio or a porch; bold colors stand out on a storefront.
Every sign comes with the backboard, a remote or in-line dimmer, the mounting kit you choose and the plug-in adapter. We send a free design proof first and make nothing until you approve it. Standard production is 15 to 20 days after approval, plus 3 to 5 days in transit, and the sign is covered for 2 years with free repair.
How to choose
Pick the spot first. Under a patio roof, a porch ceiling or an awning, the sign stays out of the worst rain and sun and lasts longest. Then find the outlet: the adapter must plug in indoors or into an outdoor outlet with a weatherproof cover, so plan the cable route before you order.
For the width, allow about 2 in per character on the longest line. A sign read from the street or across a yard needs taller letters: a common rule is about 1 in of letter height for every 10 ft of distance, and the designer shows the height. Warm white feels relaxed on a patio; red, blue or color changing stands out on a storefront.
Wall standoffs fix it to masonry or wood with the right anchors; ceiling cables suit a window or a bar canopy.
Questions
Can it get wet?
Yes. The outdoor build is rated IP67, so rain is fine. The plug-in adapter must stay dry, indoors or in a covered weatherproof outlet box.
What does IP67 mean?
It is a rating under the IEC 60529 standard: 6 means dust-tight, and 7 means protected against temporary immersion in water, about 3 ft deep for 30 minutes in the test. It is not meant for long soaking or pressure washing.
Where does the adapter go?
Somewhere dry: indoors, or in an outdoor outlet with a weatherproof in-use cover. In most cases an outdoor outlet should also be GFCI protected, so ask an electrician if you are not sure, and ask us before ordering if the outlet is far from the sign.
Can it stay in full sun and rain all year?
It is built for outdoor use, but it lasts longest under a roof or awning, out of direct, all-day rain and sun.
How do I mount it outside?
Wall standoffs fix it to masonry or wood with the right anchors and hold it about 1 in off the wall; ceiling cables hang it from a beam, a canopy or a window frame. The holes in the board are 1/4 in.
What affects the price?
The width and color changing (RGB); the outdoor build, already selected on this page, costs more than the same sign for indoors. The font, several colors, the backboard, the mounting kit and the dimmer cost nothing extra.
Can an outdoor sign run on batteries?
Yes. The 8 x AA battery box is a power choice in the designer and runs the sign for about 4 to 5 hours per set, which suits markets and evening events. Keep the battery box dry.
How long does it take?
We email a free proof first and make nothing until you approve it. Standard production then takes 15 to 20 days, plus 3 to 5 days in transit within the US; Priority (10 to 14 days) and Express (7 to 9 days) rush production are add-ons.
