Not every sign belongs on a wall. This one stands on its own on a bar, a shop counter, a desk, a shelf or a reception table, so it is easy to move for an event or a new layout. Type up to three lines in the designer on this page, pick a font and colors, and choose 20, 24 or 30 in wide.

The sign is a flexible silicone LED neon tube pressed into a groove routed in clear acrylic about 1/4 in (6 mm) thick. Its board has a straight bottom edge that slots into a clear 8 mm acrylic base. The base is clearly shorter than the sign and sits centered under it, so from the front the words seem to stand on a thin clear strip rather than a bulky foot.

Short words and names work best at this size. Allow about 2 inches of width per character on the longest line, so a 20 in sign fits about 10 characters and a 30 in sign about 15.

Power comes from a plug-in adapter (100–240 V in, 12 V DC out). For a table with no outlet nearby, such as a sweetheart table, a market stall or a pop-up counter, add the 8 x AA battery box: one set of batteries runs the sign for about 4 to 5 hours.

How to choose

Measure the surface first. The sign stands on a base shorter than itself, so it can be a little wider than the space under it, but leave room in front for glasses, a register or a laptop.

Then match the width to the words: allow about 2 in per character on the longest line. A 20 in sign suits a desk, a shelf or a short word like “Cheers”; 24 in fits a name or two short words; 30 in holds a short phrase on a bar or a reception counter. More words fit on two or three lines.

The board is made with a straight bottom edge to sit in the base. For a table with no outlet nearby, such as a sweetheart table or a market stall, add the battery box.

Is the base included?
