Coffee Neon Sign with Cup, Cafe Wall Light

“Coffee” in warm white script beside a cup with two curls of steam. It points the way to the espresso machine in a cafe, marks the coffee bar in a home kitchen and gives an office break room a little character.

Warm white is a soft, creamy white that sits well with wood counters, tile and stainless steel. The script follows the centre of each stroke with a single flexible silicone LED tube, and the cup and steam are drawn as lines of tube beside it. Everything is set into grooves routed in clear acrylic about 1/4 in thick.

Kitchens and cafes have steam and splashes, so think about placement:

• keep the sign out of the direct path of the steam wand, the kettle and the dishwasher vent
• if steam or splashes will reach it anyway, choose the outdoor build, sealed to IP67; the adapter still has to stay dry
• wipe it with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, not glass cleaner, since most glass cleaners contain ammonia, which can cloud acrylic
• on a tiled backsplash, no-drill adhesive mounts hold on smooth, sealed tile

For a coffee cart at markets and events, add the 8 x AA battery box. A set of batteries runs the sign for about 4 to 5 hours, so pack spare sets for a full day.

Above a home coffee station, 20 or 24 in is enough. Behind a cafe counter or on a menu wall, choose 30 or 36 in so it reads from the door. On a large cafe wall or in a storefront window, 48 or 60 in.

Use wall standoffs or no-drill mounts on a backsplash, ceiling cables in a window, and the free-standing base on a counter or cart in the 20 to 30 in sizes. Choose the outdoor build for a cart that works in the open.
