ON AIR Neon Sign, Red Studio Light

Studios have long used a lit ON AIR sign as a simple signal: while it glows, a live recording or broadcast is under way, so do not open the door. This version spells “ON AIR” in red block capitals inside a red rounded border, in LED neon, for a podcast room, a home recording booth, a streaming setup or a radio studio.

The bold letters are outlined in tube, and the border is its own run of tube around them, all in grooves routed in a clear acrylic rectangle about 1/4 in thick.

Two places to put it:

• outside the door or above it, where people see it before they walk in
• inside, on the wall behind you, where it shows in the camera frame

For a hallway where the sign must be seen from both directions, our ON AIR light box mounts at a right angle to the wall instead; this neon sign hangs flat.

Turning it on when you go live is easiest with the remote dimmer: on, off and brightness without leaving your chair. The plug-in adapter has a cULus Listed power supply with no fan, and it runs the sign on 12 V DC. If your camera preview shows the letters reversed, that is the preview being mirrored; many apps flip only your own view, and the recording reads normally.

The sign is made to order after a free proof: 15 to 20 days of production and 3 to 5 days in transit, with a 2-year warranty and free repair.

Above or beside a door, 20 or 24 in is plenty. Behind you on camera, choose 20 to 30 in, depending on how far the camera sits from the wall. On a studio's main wall or a large set, 36 or 48 in.

Red is pictured. Color changing lets you show red while you are live and a different color between takes.

Use wall standoffs above a door, no-drill mounts on smooth, sealed walls in a rented space, and the free-standing base on a desk or shelf. The indoor build is the right one.
